BOQ CEO Jon Sutton: BOQ’s Banking on our Kids Appeal

BOQ CEO Jon Sutton: BOQ's Banking on our Kids Appeal

BOQ CEO Jon Sutton proudly presents our 12th annual Banking on our Kids appeal, raising awareness and much needed funds to help sick kids feel like kids again.

Today’s a special day for BOQ as we launch our 12th annual Banking on our Kids (BooK) appeal, an appeal that’s very close to my heart.

Over the past 12 years, BOQ has dedicated the month of July to raising funds for Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia, a partnership of children hospital foundations from across Australia. To date we’ve raised more than 1.75 million dollars for life-saving medical research, and this year we’re campaigning to raise another $200,000.

It breaks my heart to think of children stuck in hospital fighting for their lives instead of out riding their bikes or playing dress-ups. From my visits to a number of children’s hospitals over the years I’ve seen firsthand the pain this causes children and their families, and the resilience and hope required to just manage daily life. Every child deserves a childhood, which is why we’re pulling out all stops this year to raise awareness of the appeal.

This year for the first time, we’re holding the #KIDYOURSELF Challenge. Remember how fun it was to act silly as a child? Well we’re challenging you to capture that moment – pull a funny face, dress up in your wigs and oversized sunnies, take a silly selfie and post it with #KIDYOURSELF and a link to the Banking on our Kids appeal site www.boq.com.au/kids. That’s something simple and fun that everyone can do to help raise awareness, raise donations and help get these sick kids home sooner!

Also don’t miss our launch day fundraisers today that will see branches and support centres from across the country competing through sausage sizzles and bake sales to claim the title of Champion Fundraiser. We’ll even be flipping a few snags in the Newstead Gasometer so come down and treat the family to a sausage or three! Where’s the World’s Hotdog Eating Champion when you need him?

Fundraising aside, this appeal is all about helping sick kids get better. And as the old saying goes ‘laughter is the best medicine’, which is why we’ll also be holding a Mad Hatters Tea Party at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. We’ll have Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts joining BOQ staff to put on music, face painting, magic shows and workshops to help sick children and the families enjoy some precious childhood moments together, something we can all be guilty of taking for granted.

BOOK-@BOQ BLOG-Tile-2085x1442-2Our #Bankingonourkids patient ambassador Mia will be there, you can find out more about Mia on our Banking on our Kids site www.boq.com.au/kids, her story shows just why this appeal is so important. We’re also thrilled that Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland CEO Cameron Prout will be joining us, and I look forward to a silly #KIDYOURSELF photo from him!

Remember, you can make a difference. Snap your silly selfie, share it online and make a donation for by visiting your local BOQ branch, calling 1300 737 766 or visiting www.boq.com.au/kids. Let’s help these kids get back to a normal childhood.
