BOQ’s Banking on our Kids 2017 Appeal

Join us and the ‘Hospital Heroes’ on our mission to help sick Aussie kids.

BOQ CEO Jon Sutton launches the 13th annual Banking on our Kids appeal, raising awareness and much needed funds to help sick Aussie kids.

Something BOQ has been very passionate about for the last 13 years is our annual Banking on our Kids appeal. It’s something I hold near and dear to my heart, and something that I would encourage you to get behind for the month of July.

Each year, the BOQ Banking on our Kids fundraising appeal embraces our entire national network, collecting donations and holding fundraising activities to help raise vital funds for medical research and equipment through Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia. Since its inception in 2004, we have managed to raise more than $1.95 million dollars – a stellar effort. This year we aim to add to that figure and raise another $200,000.

It can be all too easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget to stop and appreciate what you have, that is until something changes. Taking for granted our health, and the health of the ones we love is something we are all guilty of. The Banking on our Kids appeal really does serve as a reminder to all of us that we should never take these things for granted. Some of the stories of the children and their families, what they have had to endure, and continue to endure, very quickly helps put into perspective how lucky we are. It also helps to open our eyes to the fact that we are lucky enough to help those who need it most, and that’s what this appeal is all about.

This year we’re introducing a cast of very special characters. For many children undergoing treatment in hospital, their first encounter with medical equipment can be a scary one. So, along with the help of the Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia, we have turned intimidating medical machinery into a friendly troupe of #HospitalHeroes – a super squad of medical and research equipment that are on a mission to help sick kids.

Banking on our Kids Ambassador, Holly.

While Banking on our Kids runs for the month of July, our launch day on Friday 7 July, will see a myriad of activities happening around the nation – so there really is no excuse to not get involved. Our Banking on our Kids ambassador, Holly, will be at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital to help us launch the appeal – you can find out more about her story on our Banking on our Kids site; her story shows just why this appeal is so important.

Take a moment to think about who the hero in your life is. It soon becomes clear to all of us that heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and they don’t necessarily wear a cape! With that in mind, join me in making a donation at your local BOQ Branch and dress up for our Be a Hero Dress-Up Day on Friday 7 July! Don’t forget to share and post your hero outfits in addition to using the #Hospitalheroes and #Bankingonourkids hashtags.

You really can help make a difference – it might be a line you have heard over and over again, but it’s said for a reason; because it is true. Share your #HospitalHeroes and #Bankingonourkids snaps online, and make a donation by visiting your local BOQ Branch, calling 1300 737 766, or visiting, and help sick Aussie kids.
